About the Role
We’re working with a well-established plant hire business to recruit an experienced Workshop Manager for a depot based in Bedfordshire.
This is a senior, hands-on role, responsible for leading the workshop and yard teams and ensuring the fleet is safe, compliant, well-maintained and turned around quickly. You’ll sit at the heart of depot operations, working closely with the Depot Manager to keep availability high and standards high.
The role

Lead and manage the workshop and all fleet maintenance activity

Plan, allocate and review work for fitters and yard staff

Oversee PDI’s, servicing, LOLER inspections and damage repairs
-
Drive “ready for rent” standards across the fleet

Coach and mentor the fitter team to improve performance and capability

Manage workshop stock levels and parts availability

Champion health & safety and 5S standards across the depot
-
React proactively to due-for-delivery reports to avoid delays

Liaise with senior operations to maximise fleet availability

Deputise for the Depot Manager when required
What we’re looking for

NVQ / City & Guilds Level 2 or 3 in Plant Maintenance (or equivalent)

Strong, hands-on knowledge of plant machinery

Proven experience in a workshop leadership or supervisory role

Confident planning workloads and managing people

Organised, decisive and solutions-focused

Strong communication skills and a practical mindset

Full UK driving licence (max 3 points)

Salary up to £50,000 depending on experience

Monday to Friday working hours (07:30 – 17:00)
